Living In The City Is Exercise

We just got back to Brooklyn from nine weeks in Vermont.

Vermont is a rural state, once had more cows than people. There is skiing in the winter and hiking and swimming in the summer.

With all that, I get more exercise in New York than I do in Vermont.

How is that possible?

In New York you walk everywhere, to the store, to the bank, to the post office.

In Vermont you have to drive everywhere. If you are in Burlington Vermont you can walk or ride a bike most everywhere. But in the rest of the state as in most of suburban communities it is a real effort to get exercise.

So when I was there, I had to make the effort to run up the hill a few times in the morning and go to yoga class in the evening. I still have to do that here also, but I get exercise going up and down the steps to the subway too.

Let me know how you get exercise during the day. Do you live in a suburb or the city?
